Fast Lane to Career Literacy Webinar Recap

Educators and workforce partners recently joined CareerViewXR for the webinar “Fast Lane to Career Literacy: Virtual Paths to Real Futures,” featuring Ann Pollert, Career Coach for North Dakota’s Region III Mobile Career Exploration Classroom.

During the session, Pollert shared how a mobile career exploration classroom van is expanding access to career exploration for students in rural and tribal schools. By bringing immersive career experiences directly to schools, the program allows students to explore real workplaces and occupations that may otherwise be difficult to access locally through traditional field trips or job shadows.

About the Mobile Classroom

The Mobile Career Exploration Classroom is a specially equipped Ford Transit van that travels to schools throughout North Dakota’s Region III. The mobile classroom features TV displays, seating, and multiple VR headsets to provide access to more than 100 CareerViewXR field trips. Some of these were even filmed with employers located in the region, making the content especially relevant. By bringing the technology directly to students, the van helps remove barriers of geography, safety, and time and ensures that even small or remote schools can provide meaningful career exploration opportunities.

Sparking Curiosity & Conversation

Using VR career experiences and interactive web-based tours from CareerViewXR, students can step inside real job sites in various industries and see what the work actually looks like without ever leaving the classroom. Pollert explained that this exposure helps students move beyond stereotypes about careers and often sparks curiosity about fields they may not have previously considered.

The content also helps creates opportunities for meaningful conversations about career pathways. After exploring an experience, students frequently ask about training requirements and opportunities for job shadows or work-based learning near them. Teachers have found the experiences to be highly engaging and a powerful way to kick off broader career exploration activities.

Pollert emphasized that while technology alone isn’t the solution, tools like immersive media can play an important role in strengthening career literacy, especially when paired with career assessments, counseling, and community partnerships. Together, these approaches help students better understand the wide range of opportunities available to them.

By bringing real-world career experiences directly to students, innovative programs like the Region III Mobile Career Exploration Classroom are helping ensure that every learner has the opportunity to explore and envision their future.
