FAQs

General

CareerViewXR is an immersive platform that brings you field trips and job shadow experiences! Using 360° media, we produce interactive web-based tours and companion virtual reality videos that get viewers into the heart of a career. Students and job seekers love getting up close and personal with our experiences, having fun, and learning about high-demand industries, such as health care, skilled trades, energy, and more

The CVXR platform hosts a growing catalog of web-based virtual tour experiences to explore using devices you already own. Log in using a simple access code on a laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other web-enabled device to begin your adventure. Viewers then can navigate through a day in the life of a specific career professional or get a glimpse into an entire workplace, seeing multiple different career opportunities along the way. Each web-based tour is paired with a virtual reality (VR) video that can be viewed on virtual reality headsets. While a VR headset is optional for the CVXR platform, we recommend trying it for an incredible experience.

Watch our short tutorial to see how easy using CVXR is!

We build the experiences so any middle or high school student can easily navigate on their own. However, we make experiences flexible enough to be used with elementary students to adult job seekers. Our experiences aren’t just your standard video. They’re more like a video game that we rated E for everyone!

Note: Not only can CareerViewXR be used by school districts, but it can also be used by employment agencies, recruitment professionals, corrections facilities, industry organizations, and more.

While in-person experiences are unique, we believe the CareerViewXR platform can offer a unique opportunity for viewers. It provides a growing variety of unique experiences that can be accessed 24/7 from anywhere in the world without barriers like time constraints, safety concerns, or cost. A highlight for school districts is that students can explore dozens of experiences for less than the cost of taking a single class on a field trip.

No, having a VR headset is not required to use CareerViewXR’s experiences. Viewers can access the entire library of web-based tour content using laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other similar internet-connected devices. In a classroom/group setting, we have found that sharing the screen of a single device using a projector or smartboard is an effective way to get an entire room engaged in the same experience. While a headset is not required, we recommend trying out the companion VR videos to immerse in the scenes fully.

Our subscription pricing varies based on school or organization size. Questions or concerns around pricing? We are more than happy to discuss and see how we can help.

Note: CareerViewXR is an eligible expense for ESSER, Perkins, and other similar education grants.

We’re glad you asked! We have over 45 experiences in our library, showcasing healthcare, skilled trades, and other in-demand industries. A few examples include Wind Turbine Technicians, Dental Hygienists, Electricians, and Respiratory Therapists. We are working to produce more field trips and job shadow experiences every chance to continue inspiring job seekers everywhere.

Our primary focus for initial production is to highlight healthcare, skilled trades, and other in-demand industries to help boost the areas most in need of professional and passionate workers. If we get the opportunity to capture a unique career experience not found on in-demand jobs lists, we try our best to create that experience when we have time and resources or add it to our future roadmap for later. Check out our current production pipeline here.

As we grow our initial content library, we’ve mainly focused on in-demand industries and jobs, explicitly referencing the in-demand jobs list from North Dakota Job Service. We have found a lot of overlap in in-demand careers from state to state, so our content will also align with what other regions are looking for. We also listen for content suggestions from a whole host of people, including users, school districts, job service organizations, and regional entities. Our goal is to create immersive content that helps align with their perfect career path, so getting their feedback is a must!

Maybe! We welcome suggestions and feedback to help us make CareerViewXR a better platform. We typically have a roadmap of experiences we’d like to capture, but if we have an opportunity to capture unique suggested experiences, we will try to do so! Check out our current production roadmap here.

We do feature some diversity in our library of content, but we're always working to include more. The diversity we showcase is dependent on the diversity of the employer locations that we are able to partner with. We know that featuring people with different backgrounds and abilities can make a meaningful impact!

For VR headsets, we use the Vive Focus 3 and Meta Quest 2. We get our headsets through our technology partner, Bytespeed. That being said, any VR headset that can be sideloaded is compatible with our VR content and VR headsets are not required at all for our web-based content!

For 360 cameras, we use Insta360's OneRS and X3 models. To find these cameras, as well as additional equipment we use, head to our Amazon Marketplace.

Technical

Thanks for asking! Simply put, our job shadow experiences follow a single career through a typical day of work. These may follow an individual or a few professionals holding the same position. CVXR field trip experiences, on the other hand, showcase a workplace and the various careers that help that business or organization run. In both, we emphasize capturing real people doing work in natural environments!

360° media makes an extraordinary impact over traditional pictures and videos. In traditional media, the point of view is decided for you. With 360° media, viewers choose their adventure while exploring the content, unrestrained by the conventional frame of reference. The scope allows users to see the action from a first-person view anywhere at any time.

Have no fear! We'll get things sorted for you as soon as possible. Subscribers can submit support tickets about any issues encountered with the ticket form found on our contact page or with the chatbot found in the lower left of the screen. Feature requests and user feedback are also welcome through this form.

Yes and no! While our web-based tours do require internet access, our companion VR videos do not require it. As long as you have downloaded the video files onto your VR headset prior, you can have fun exploring careers without the need for wifi!

Simple answer: it varies! Better solution: out of the headsets we recommend, a single headset can run anywhere between $399-$1,300. See the next question for our headsets of choice. While you can find cheaper and more expensive setups on the market, the models we suggest have been tested by us and proven to meet our quality expectations while keeping affordability in mind. We recommend checking out our technology partner Bytespeed for your headset needs.

We have a few different recommendations for VR headsets: Oculus Quest 2 (Now known as the Meta Quest 2), HTC Vive Focus 3, and HTC Vive Focus Plus. Looking to purchase? Check out our technology partner Bytespeed for your headset needs. Tell them we sent you!

Of course! Our team can host training or demos in-person (depending on location) or virtually. We also have fantastic partners like EduTech in North Dakota that help us with outreach like training and demos. Reach out to us and let’s schedule a time!

CareerViewXR currently offers yearly subscriptions. So if you subscribe once, you can access the web-based content 24/7 for 365 days!

After a school, workforce center, or other organization subscribes, they receive a single, unique access code for all of their students and job seekers to use. CareerViewXR does NOT host individual account logins for students and job seekers. They simply login with the access code and get access to the full library of web-based experiences.

Note: Subscribed organizations are allowed one account admin and one location admin per site location to access the admin dashboard; this dashboard features their access code, VR video downloads, analytics, and general account information.

While we love when people get to try out our VR videos, we know that about 1 in 10 people cannot use a VR headset due to vertigo, tactile/sensory aversions, and other health-related issues. This is why we opted to have both web-based tours and companion VR videos- allowing as many people as possible to comfortably explore immersive career content. Currently, our web-based experiences feature hotspots with identical information in text and audio/video players to accommodate viewers that may have reading or hearing issues.

WebXR, the platform on which virtual reality/augmented reality content resides, is still in its infancy and unfortunately has limited accessibility options for screen readers and other more traditional accessibility tools. We are actively working on adding features to our web-based tours to overcome those issues and increase accessibility for users with disabilities. This is a very important consideration for us and one we will continue to develop as the technology allows.

Educators & Schools

We love to hear that you’re interested! You are more than welcome to share our site with school administrators and educators and/or sign up for a free demo to explore the platform. If you’d like, our team is more than happy to do a live demo for educators and administrators, virtually or in person, to answer any questions and concerns before a subscription is made. Contact us to take the first step!

We currently have a 250-seat minimum per subscription. We can work with your REA, co-op, and homeschool association to accommodate access to smaller volume school settings. Reach out to us for more details.

CareerViewXR adapts to different schools’ needs and resources for career exploration. The platform’s web-based tours can be shared using an educator’s computer to a projector screen or smartboard to engage an entire room on the same experience. Similarly, a single VR headset’s view can be cast to a projector or smartboard to also engage a whole room in a single video.

To get entire classrooms hands-on with the content, we suggest having each login via their smartphones, laptops, or tablets. If students do not have access to mobile devices like this, having them spend class time in the library/media center/computer lab is a great alternative.

Easy answer— any place where career exploration is needed! We’ve found that using VR can make quite a splash at various in-person events. Not only can CareerViewXR be used by students, but it can also be used by employment agencies, recruitment professionals, corrections facilities, industry organizations, and more. Contact us to learn more about becoming a CVXR subscriber.

Yes, CareerViewXR is considered an eligible expense for grants that allow spending on career exploration, CTE, and the like.

We say a resounding YES! For example, we’ve had an educator mention using the Wind Turbine Technician experience and math to have students solve the angle between the blades. In the future, we hope to create sample lesson plans for coursework that leans into math, science, technology, and other topics to supplement the tour experiences. If you have ideas about using CVXR to teach different disciplines, please connect with us. We’d love to discuss it with you.

Our team offers white label and enterprise options for production partners looking for something extra!

We are excited that our platform can offer benefits to our production partners. Production partners are businesses and organizations that offer up their locations and time investment to allow us to film one or more field trips or job shadow experiences. Every production partner is named on the platform and receives a copy of their VR video for use in VR headsets. Other optional paid tiers include licensing of CVXR-branded content, white labeling to use your branding, and black label customization. Contact us, we’d love to meet and discuss opportunities and details!
