Course Description
Immerse yourself in innovative career exploration with our graduate-level course on Virtual Reality (VR) for Career Exploration. This innovative class leverages the use of CareerViewXR, an immersive career exploration platform that brings field trips to the classroom through 360-degree web-based tours and companion virtual reality videos.
Participants will engage in environments tailored to different industries and gain firsthand experiences and insights into the day-to-day realities of diverse careers. Through guided virtual tours, educators will develop a deep understanding of industry-specific challenges, opportunities, and requisite skills. This learning experience will culminate in the redesign and integration of career curriculums, ultimately enhancing students' career awareness.
Join us at the forefront of career development as we harness the power of VR to redefine how students prepare for their futures.

The syllabus for the course lists the objectives, topical outline and other details that set the stage for the course (Note: There are two different syllabuses for this course depending on your location). The course is asynchronous, can be completed in a timeframe shorter than the semester if desired, and graduate credit through NDSU’s Distance and Continuing Education may be applied for at the time of completion.
The course will take at least 15 hours with most lessons requiring VR exploration and reflection questions. If you are familiar with using a VR headset, your efforts will likely be less. The final assignment includes creating a presentation, sharing it with others in your building as well as an industry leader in your community and reflection.
Yes, a VR headset is needed for this course. You may use a VR headset owned by your school/organization or a personal VR headset.
(North Dakota Educators: We recommend using the headset that CVXR donated to your school in February 2024 as part of a statewide initiative to make immersive learning more accessible across the state of ND.)
Contact Lisa Metzger at lisa@bemorecolorful.com for details on possible industry sponsorships available for headsets or how you can purchase a headset directly from CVXR.
If you are unable to use a VR headset due to health reasons, you may use the web version of CareerViewXR.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Lisa Metzger at lisa@bemorecolorful.com.
