New VR Field Trip at Conley Bottom Resort Highlights Hospitality and Tourism Careers in Kentucky

Monticello, KY (May 28, 2025) - The team behind the immersive career literacy platform CareerViewXR will be returning to Kentucky to continue an exciting collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL). Following the filming of two prior virtual field trips highlighting Kentucky industries, CareerViewXR is continuing the project with a new experience at Conley Bottom Resort.

Nestled along the shores of Lake Cumberland, Conley Bottom Resort is a family-owned and operated destination featuring a beautiful marina, store, restaurant, houseboats, lodging units, and a campground. The planned resort field trip will consist of an interactive web-based tour and companion virtual reality video, giving students an inside look at career opportunities within Kentucky’s hospitality and tourism industry. Representatives from the CareerViewXR team will be filming at the resort over the weekend of May 30th.

This additional filming represents an ongoing effort to create accessible and engaging career exploration experiences for learners in Kentucky and is a part of KDE’s large-scale VR deployment launched in 2024. The VR deployment provided 2,450 Meta Quest 2 VR headsets and immersive learning content to over 30 Area Technology Center across the state. Recognized as one of the largest VR rollouts through a state education agency, the initiative’s intent is to support students with disabilities in career and technical education (CTE) while improving post-secondary transition outcomes for all learners. Educators have integrated the VR headsets into lessons supporting STEM concepts, career awareness, and more.

"Career exploration should be engaging and accessible for every learner. With VR technology, students of all abilities can gain firsthand experiences in industries that are shaping Kentucky’s future workforce," said Gretta Hylton, Associate Commissioner of the Office of Special Education and Early Learning.

Students exploring the Conley Bottom Resort experience will learn about a variety of roles essential to the resort’s operations, including store clerk, bookkeeper, deckhand, kitchen staff, security, and merchandising. In addition to these hospitality and tourism-focused careers, the field trip will also touch on skilled trades roles found around the resort for maintenance and repair, including welder, electrician, and mechanic. The finalized video and web tour will showcase the skills, teamwork, and customer service excellence that drive successful hospitality businesses.

“We’re excited to be back in Kentucky, showcasing career opportunities alongside the Kentucky Department of Education and Conley Bottom Resort,” said Katie Chaussee, Co-Founder and Chief Administrative Officer of CareerViewXR. “The Conley Bottom Resort field trip will show the real people and real skills that make Kentucky’s tourism and hospitality industries possible. As members of the Kentucky Chamber, we’re proud to support career exploration opportunities here.”

The Conley Bottom Resort team is also eager about the project. “We are so excited to be partnering with CareerView to showcase the many jobs available in Kentucky's tourism industry.” shared Amber Peircy Rector, Office Manager at Conley Bottom Resort.

This collaboration with Conley Bottom Resort marks CareerViewXR’s third production project in Kentucky. During the team’s first trip, they worked with two other organizations from very different industries. Cleary Construction welcomed the team to an active jobsite in Bowling Green, KY to highlight roles involved in construction and underground utility installation. Ingram Barge Company was the second organization involved, allowing the film crew to get a glimpse at the careers that make inland marine transportation possible along the Ohio River and other major waterways.

Members of the CareerViewXR production team are getting ready for the scheduled filming days. “I’m really excited for this adventure. It’s not often that you get to spend time at a beautiful resort for work,” said Drew Swenson, Media Production Manager at CareerViewXR. He added, “Kentucky is full of unique opportunities to capture, and we see ourselves coming back again very soon to film more of what the state has to offer.”

When the field trip is complete, it will be added to CareerViewXR’s growing library of experiences. To date, the platform features more than 95 field trips highlighting roles in healthcare, skilled trades, manufacturing, energy, technology, and more. Students in Kentucky and beyond will be able to access this new and existing content from VR headsets or any web-enabled device, including laptops, tablets, and phones—ensuring accessibility for all learners.

CareerViewXR’s content was just one of many immersive tools that were implemented across Kentucky classrooms as a part of KDE’s large-scale VR deployment. Some of the other solutions included:

  • ManageXR, enabling educators to manage VR content across schools.
  • ENGAGE, a virtual platform supporting real-time collaboration.
  • XReps, providing gamified, football-themed drills to enhance math engagement.
